Scenic spots, touring and sporting possibilities in Vásárosnamény:
The hospitable small town can be found in the north-eastern part of Hungary , in Szabolcs-Szatmár-Bereg County , at the junction of the Rivers Tisza, Szamos and Kraszna. Vásárosnamény can be approached from Nyíregyháza along one of the most beautiful road sections of the country (main road 41), but the 50 km distance can be made by rail as well.
The present-day town was organised from four independent village parts (Vásárosnamény, Vitka, Gergelyi and Ugornya) and two farmsteads, out of them Gergelyi and Ugornya were joined in 1936. Vásárosnamény joined with Vitka and Gergelyiugornya in 1969. The settlement received the rank of a town in 1979. The town is divided into two parts by the River Tisza. Namény and Vitka can be found on the left side, while Gergelyiugornya on the right side. Vásárosnamény is one of the settlements having the best tourist capabilities in Szabolcs-Szatmár-Bereg County and the most important pleasure resort of the Upper Tisza region. Every summer several ten thousand visitors rest in its free sand-beach, the Tisza bank in Gergelyiugornya.
In the daytime beyond bathing you can pursue water sports or play waterside games, while during the evening hours you can enjoy entertaining and music programs held on the open-air stage. The almost 400 pieces of wooden resort house built on feet around the sand-beach constitute a real “resort village”. The favourite resting place of water-tour participants, Tiszavirág Camping can be found in the neighbourhood of the resort centre. In addition to the free sand-beach, the Atlantica Water Fun Park found 800 m from the Tisza-Szamos junction is also a popular bathing-resort.
During the whole year the “Szilva” Thermal and Wellness Bath built on the bank of River Kraszna welcomes those who have a desire for healing and re-creation. The Bereg Museum showing the unique archaeological, ethnographical values and history of the region seems to be an excellent scenic spot of the town. Since 2007 the collection appreciated by tourists as well has found its place in the renovated Tomcsányi Castle . The School History Exhibition located in the Eötvös Mansion recalls the world of old schools. The ancient Reformed Church built on the remains of the middle-age church is a characteristic building of the centre of the town. Other program possibilities:
